The foundation of the Shirley of Hollywood lingerie company date back to the 1940's when Herman Schlobohm was selling supplies to the bra, basque & corset industry in New York. In 1948, Herman moved location Hollywood, California, starting a business called the National Corset Supply House. In 1966 the company also started manufacturing risque lingerie, sleepwear and knickers. His two sons joined the business, Jon in 1960 & Roy a year later.

In 1970 they bought the name "Shirley of Hollywood" from its founder who wanted to retire and who was also a long term customer of the National Corset Supply House in Hollywood. Jon handled the admin and financial side of the business and Roy supervised production and design of the garments. The business grew quickly and in the 1980's, the third generation of Schlobohm's joined the business.

Now with state of the art design and sewing facilities in the USA and abroad, Shirley were already using unique fabrications, laces and trims from many sources. Shirley of Hollywood continues to grow earning the respect of their peers, especially in the sexy night gown department. With a unique combination of top talent, energy & a quick response, the Shirley company has captured that "something special" market in the USA and is expanding abroad.

The lingerie colours used in the Hollywood range are often quite bold primary colours which are eye catching & quite different from the majority of European manufacturers who tend to favour more subtle colour schemes. In 2005 Shirley of Hollywood launched for the first time a range of bold silk chemise nightwear which has proved to be very popular.
